The Limbo Diaries. 2

27/1/06

TJ: I record the basic guide guitar for 'All the Way to London' and 'Papillon'.  'All the Way to London' is a song that I've had for a while, intended as a jangly beast, but slowed down to a quiet beauty. It has a very open arrangement, so could go anywhere. The lyric was started almost twenty years ago, but still resonates in my little world. Who said "the more things change, the more they stay the same"?
'Papillon' is the first and last MM song in which I sing in French! Unusually direct for me, it is, I guess, a love song. I like playing it to Di as she can't get through it without pulling her 'ugly' crying face, and blowing snot; should be a real high point if you see her at a gig!
We do our usual 3 vocals and comp', then Marcus starts a tinkering.
As I leave for home he's fighting with a sample called 'Scrambled Monks'!
Hold on to your habits!

MC: 'All the Way to London' got under my skin that day, so I spent the next week working on it. For some reason I ended up going down quite a synth based path, then into a mad heavy bridge with gated 'metal guitars' . I had prepared Trev to expect something 'a bit different', but was still a little apprehensive when I pressed ‘play’. Fortunately, after a couple of listens, Trev gave it the thumbs up. He had a few ideas regarding the arrangement and the voice effect, and after some experimentation we ended up with a great track; a pop record indeed!
